Tator when we first picked him up at the shelter... 12/23/09
Tator recovering.... about 2 weeks later...
Hi there,
When Tator came into us he was severely underweight, had demodex and had a very severe cough. Stray, then shelter dog in north Alabama – I think. He is off his antibiotics now, is eating like a horse – literally it is the most I’ve ever seen a dog his size eat – is gaining weight really fast, romping and playing with all the rest of my animals and is starting to heal from his demodex. I think his coat will be really pretty once it comes back in. I will have a better idea about when he will be completely healed and when he can get neutered when I come back from the vet today. Poor little Tator, when I got him he was so skinny and had lost the hair on his face so he looked like a wrinkly raisin! I just wanted to put fat injections into his little cheeks – they just drooped. But now he is starting to fill out!
A little bit about him: We guess he is about 2 years old. Appears to be all Boston. He does have a medium sized tail that is not screwtailed. He loves, loves, loves his crate. He hasn’t been feeling very well so he goes in to his crate to take lots of naps on his own accord. He is a quick learner about the house breaking. He has only had one accident since I’ve had him. He gets along great with all my other animals including my cat. He was a bit food aggressive toward my other animals (not me), but that has now dissipated. I believe that their temperament degrades the longer they are in shelters – they go into survival mode. So now that he is in a home, he’s food aggression is very quickly going away. He is very very sensitive. He gets his feelings hurt a lot. I think Bostons as a breed are very sensitive dogs. They pout, etc. You can’t fuss on Tator too much because it really really hurts his feelings. The more he gets to trust humans, the more he will come out of his shell. He is starting to run and play in the yard and have fun again now that he is feeling better.

on 2010-01-20 20:11:50 I look forward to reading about Tator's recovery. He is a beautiful dog. My husband and I have been looking into adopting a Boston. It is heartwarming to see that this little guy is being taken care of so well. I cannot wait to see more pictures of him.

on 2010-01-24 08:14:35 I'm Tator's foster Mom and he is doing SOOO much better now! What a difference a month can make! He is at the weight he should be now and is now starting to develop the muscle definition that the breed is known for. He is super sweet - everyone falls in love with him. His tongue lolls out of his mouth a little bit which makes him even cuter! All his shelter behavior is gone now and he is just a great dog. He is still sensitive, but I think that is just his personality. Most of his fur is back in and I think he probably has about 15% more to go. He has to go back to the vet on 2/6 to check on the demodex and finally get neutered, etc. He is so adoptable - I can't think of a situation that Tator would not fit right into! He has been around lots of other dogs, cats and kids. He is just a super sweet little guy. I just hope that he goes to a home that appreciates what a super little boy he is even after his hard life! If you are interested in Tator or want more current pictures just ask!

on 2010-02-03 06:44:10 To Tator's foster mom: you are such a blessing! You obviously have just the right mix of knowledge, compassion, and dedication. It sounds like little Tator has just blossomed under your care. I adopted my dear Daisy Doodle from ABTR and she had a special foster mom too. You all do an awesome job!!

Comment by Anonymous on 2010-05-21 10:49:23 I'm Tator's new mommy! My name is Kaley Gwinn and I adopted Tator on March 10th!! He is the love of my life! He lives with my roommate and me, and between the two of us is spoiled with love. He cuddles in my arms when I sleep and loves to visit with my sister's BT and run run run! He loves showing off his bling collar and bright blue harness on walks and at the dog park :) He is healthy and happy and I couldn't be happier myself. I just wanted to let ABTR know how thankful I am for caring for my little boy before we met. I especially want to recognize Judy for responding so quickly and making the adoption process surprisingly smooth! Nichole, Tator's foster mom, is an absolute angel, and I'm so thankful that she gave Tator so much love and care when he was in the healing process. I will definitely go through ABTR to get another BT in the future! Thanks a million!
